AUTUMN COWL

Yarn
Peruvian Dream Worsted (50% Alpaca, 30% Merino, 20% Silk) 100g (220 yds / 201 m)
1 skein

Materials
Size 7 mm interchangeable crochet hook with cord
Size 6 mm standard hook
Yarn needle, stitch markers, 5x .5’’ buttons

Difficulty
Intermediate

Finished size
18’’ (45 cm) around top

Gauge
6 tss x 6 rows = 2”

Stitch Guide
ch (chain)
sc (single crochet)
sl st (slip stitch)
st (stitch)
rep (repeat)
ea (each)
inc (increase)
tss (tunisian simple stitch)
RS (right side)

Special Stitches
Picot: Ch 3, sl st in 1st ch.
Inc:Insert hook under horizontal bar before in indicated space, yarn over and bring up a loop.




SECTION 1 – COWL

With Tunisian hook, ch 52. Work base row forward and return passes. (51 sts)

Row 1 – Forward pass: Tss in next 25 sts, inc before next, yo (eyelet created), sk st, inc before next, tss in next 25 sts. Work return pass. (50 sts + eyelet)

Row 2 – Forward pass: Tss in next 24 sts, inc before next, tss in next, yo, sk eyelet, tss in next, inc before next, tss in next 24 sts. Work return pass. (52 sts + eyelet)

Rows 3-20 – Forward pass: Tss across to st before eyelet, inc before that stitch, tss in st before eyelet, yo, sk eyelet, tss in next, inc before next, tss to end. Work return pass.

Row 21 – Forward pass: Tss across. Work return pass.

Bind off : Sl st in ea tss across. Finish off.

 

SECTION 2 – PICOT BORDER

With standard hook and RS facing, join yarn in top corner.

Row 1 : Ch 1, sc in ea row end to 1st bind off sl st, (sc, picot, sc) in same st, *(sc, picot) in next, sc in next. Repeat from * to end, ending with (sc, picot, sc) in last sl st. Sc in ea row end to next corner. Finish off.

 

SECTION 3 – FINISHING

Weave in all ends.

Sew buttons evenly down one side at back of cowl.

Button through row ends on opposite side.

Block to finished size.
