Book review : Crocheted Beanies & Slouchy Hats (Julie King)

I recently received this book for review from Stackpole Books. All opinions are my own.

I was pretty excited to receive a copy of this book for review. I know Julie – I used to test for her, and years later, we were in a designer group together. I’d known she was working on a crochet pattern book and am so happy for her that it’s now published!

crocheted beanies book review

Julie King is known for her gorgeous hat patterns.  In Crocheted Beanies & Slouchy Hats, you will find 31 patterns for colourful crocheted hats. 31!! That’s a crazy amount of patterns in one book.

And having looked at the book for a few days, I can confirm that they are all hats I would make and wear.

Julie’s distinct style is apparent throughout. The 31 patterns vary in style (beanies, slouchy hats, etc), and are worked with yarn weights ranging from worsted to super bulky. Another important thing : all of the yarns used are easy to find, and lesser known techniques are explained with pictures and steps at the end of the book.

I love that all of the patterns have multiple large photos included, so that you know exactly what you’re working toward. The instructions are very easy to read, and each pattern’s level is listed.

I highly recommend this book if you want more hats in your life (and who doesn’t)!
