Brentwood Poncho : free Tunisian crochet pattern

Last edited: March 2023 to correct even row repeats.

One of my favorite things I get to do in this crochet world is work with the fantastic people at Furls Crochet and with the magical tools they create.

This year, I’m proud to be part of the Crochet Foundry Blog Hop. For my pattern, I knew I wanted to work with Furls Crochet’s gorgeous Tunisian hooks to rework a favorite pattern of mine in worsted weight Wander Yarn also by Furls Crochet.

I’m so happy to see that the Tunisian hooks are available in a wider variety of sizes – including half-sizes! They’re so very pretty and lightweight. When you can get away with a straight hook for your project these should be your first choice. As far as the yarn goes, if you’ve followed me for a while you may find my choice of such a neutral colour surprising. It surprised me too, but I’m so glad I chose this colour! Wander is an amazing acrylic yarn to work with: super soft, bouncy and absolutely gorgeous colour options.

The resulting pattern is the Brentwood Poncho, a free Tunisian crochet pattern.

Bentwood is a very straightforward pattern, worked side to side – cuff to cuff – with simple increases and decreases. You’ll be keeping warm in no time!

Notes

The Brentwood poncho is crocheted from cuff to cuff and assembled only at the cuffs.

The first stitch of each row is the loop on your hook – consider it already done (it won’t be mentioned in the instructions but is in the st count).

The last loop of each row is pulled up behind the two loops at the edge of the row.

Special stitches

Increase (inc): Insert hook between indicated sts, pull up a loop.

Decrease (dec): Insert hook through front loop of first st and through both loops of second stitch as for a tks, pull up a loop.
