Free crochet pattern : the Spring cup cozy

This is a quick gift from me to you while we wait for Spring! This cup cozy is super simple & quick to make. It’s great for decorating a kitchen, or offering a handmade gift!


Materials :

Yarn : Rowan Fine Art Aran (Worsted) 18g
Hook : 4.5 mm

Yarn needle
Stitch marker

Decorative button

Abbreviations :

sl st : slip stitch
ch : chain
sc : single crochet
sc-blo : single crochet, back loop only
ea : each

Note : Cozy is worked from the bottom up.


Ch 35 to start, sl st in 1st ch to form ring.

Round 1 : Ch 1, sc around. Join with sl st in 1st stitch. Turn.

Now working in rows :

Row 1 : Ch 1, sc in 1st stitch, sc-blo in ea st to stitch before last, sc in last stitch. Turn.

Rows 2 to 6 : Repeat row 2.

Row 7 : Ch 1, sc in ea stitch to end of row. Do not turn! Ch 10, sl st in same space to form ring (buttonhole).

Finish off & weave ends in.

Sew button to corner opposite buttonhole.

Place cup in cozy, wrapping buttonhole over handle to button.

Tip : To prevent the cozy from slipping, put a few drops of liquid latex on wrong side. Leave to air dry before placing cup into the cozy.
