Free crochet pattern : the Spring cup cozy

This is a quick gift from me to you while we wait for Spring! This cup cozy is super simple & quick to make. It’s great for decorating a kitchen, or offering a handmade gift!



INSTRUCTIONS

Materials :

Yarn : Rowan Fine Art Aran (Worsted) 18g
Hook : 5 mm

Yarn needle
Stitch markers

Cup
1 in/2.5 cm decorative button

Abbreviations :

  • ch: chain
  • sc: single crochet
  • sc-blo: single crochet, back loop only
  • sl st: slip stitch

Note : Cozy is worked from the bottom up.

Instructions:

Ch 35, sl st in first ch to form ring.

Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around, join with sl st in first sc, turn.

Now working in rows :

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in first sc, sc-blo in each sc until 1 sc remains, sc in last sc, turn.

Rows 2 to 6: Repeat Row 1.

Row 7: Ch 1, sc in each sc to end, do not turn, ch 10, sl st in side of last sc (buttonhole made).

Finish off and weave ends in. Sew button to corner opposite buttonhole.

Place cup in cozy, wrapping buttonhole over handle to button.

Tip : To prevent the cozy from slipping, put a few drops of liquid latex on wrong side. Leave to air dry before placing cup into the cozy.
