Granny des Bois, new crochet cowl pattern

ETA, Jan 22, 2021. This pattern has now been updated to include the matching hat. Read on for details =)

After months of project management being done in the shadows, I’m super excited to introduce you to Granny des Bois, a new crochet cowl pattern featuring the classic granny square.

I’m releasing this pattern for Douceurs d’hiver (Softness of winter), a collaborative project involving myself, 4 other wonderful crochet designers, 5 fiber producers from Québec, and my Collective of French-speaking crochet designers, Francrochet – Le Collectif. The idea is the brainchild of friend, rancher and designer Jessica of Ranch H&J.

About Douceurs d’hiver

Together, we launched this project to showcase the talent found locally, right here in our beautiful province. Each of the 5 projects was designed by a Québec designer in collaboration with a Québec fiber producer. We’ve got angora rabbits, sheep, alpacas, etc. and amazing, winter-appropriate, crochet designs.

More info about the bilingual projects by Les Mailles à Mailloux, Mère et Fille Tricots, and the French only projects by Inspire Création and Vi-Laine Bergère can be found here (in French).

About Granny des Bois

As for my project, it’s currently only available on Ravelry – but at a super low price which will be even better when I tell you that I will be adding a matching hat pattern to the pdf next week, at no extra cost to you. So yes, you get the cowl at a discount, and I add a hat free next week. Then the price goes up to the regular price for a 2-pattern set.

Granny des Bois is now a matching hat and cowl set =)

My project is a collaboration with Les Moutons de Richard, a shepherd in Ste-Justine de Newton (Qc). The yarn I worked with is a mix of sheep’s wool and angora, making for yarn that is both soft and sturdy. It was a joy to work with. If you want to purchase from them, simply contact them on Facebook. They ship *everywhere* =)

I chose the Granny square because I wanted a classic piece to showcase the beauty of the yarn. Something to be worn for many winters to come, that would just get better with age. The cowl (and matching hat to come) are both doubled – so you can be sure they’ll keep you warm in the coldest of winter days.

Do take the time to discover this collaboration, and perhaps give my pattern some love on Ravelry =)
