Holiday placemat and coaster set

Materials

Panettone by Hobbii, 50 g (131 yds/120 m)

87% Cotton, 7% Polyamide, 6% Metallic fiber

2 balls Dark Red/Dark Pink (12) per setting

Hook

Size 8 mm Tunisian crochet hook (straight or interchangeable with smallest cable) 

Notions

Yarn needle; scissors ; repair hook and transparent (Scotch) tape – both optional, but helpful.

Gauge

8 sts x 6 rows = 2 in (5 cm), blocked

Gauge is not critical.

Finished size

Coaster: 4 in x 3 ½ in (10 cm x 9 cm)

Placemat: 9 in x 13 in (23 cm x 33 cm), excluding fringe

INSTRUCTIONS

Coaster (Placemat)

Fr-FP. Ch 17 (41), skip 1st ch, pull up a loop in each ch across. RP (throughout). Yo, pull through 1 loop, *yo, pull through 2 loops, repeat from * across until 1 loop remains. 17 (41) sts

Row 1 – FP. *Yo, tss in next 3 sts, pull yo over 3 sts with repair hook, repeat from * to end, work last st. RP.

Row 2 – FP. Tss in each st across. RP.

Rows 3-10 (3-40). Repeat Rows 1-2.

After last row, bind off with sl st in each st across.

Fasten off, weave ends in and block to finished size.



PLACEMAT FRINGE

Cut 108 8 in (20 cm) lengths of yarn. Separate them into 36 groups of 3 (18 groups for both short sides of the placemat).

Fold a trio of yarn in two and pull its loop through work, opposite a group of 3 sts.

Pull ends through loop and tighten to form a knot. Repeat for each group of 3 sts and at beginning and end of both short sides.

Using tape, secure fringe to work surface and cut evenly across to desired fringe length.
