Ski Bunny, hat crochet pattern

What’s this: This is the Ski Bunny Hat. It was designed in collaboration with Illimani Yarn & is part of a 2-pattern set available at the link above.

Why should I make this: A decadent hat to keep your head warm when you’re off the slopes, or when taking a romantic stroll through the fresh evening snow..

When will this get the most use: When it gets chilly.

Who is it for: Pattern is custom-sized.

Where do I start: This pattern is rated Intermediate – You’ll need to be comfortable with crochet in general & some complex stitch placement. You will need 100g of Worsted weight yarn (used here: Illimani Royal I) & a 4,5 mm hook. Other notions: a faux-fur pompom, a yarn needle, and some stitch markers.

Feedback is always welcome & I hope to see your projects! Email: julie.ACCROchet@gmail.com

Notes

Hat and border are made in one piece, worked in rows. As this hat is made to measurements, jot down the circumference of the head you’re crocheting for.

Instructions

Section 1 : Hat

Ch 47 to start.

Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch (!!), hdc in next 4 chs, *sl st in next 5 chs, hdc in next 5 chs. Repeat from * until 10 chs are left. Sl st in last 10 chs. Turn.

!!Ch 2 skipped at begining of row do not count as a stitch.

Tip : The 10 last sl st here form the border. Sl st can be hard to see or count, so I suggest placing a marker in the 1st sl st you made, and moving it up as you crochet. Make sure to count your stitches often.

From this point on, all stitches will be made in BACK LOOK ONLY (BLO).

Row 2: Ch 1, sl st blo in 10 next sl sts, from this point across (sl st blo in all sl sts, hdc blo in all hdcs). Turn.

Row 3:
Ch 1, from this point across (sl st blo in all hdc blo, hdc blo in all sl st blo) until you reach marker, sl st blo in last 10 sl st blo. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 1, sl st blo in 10 sl st blo, from this point across (sl st blo in all sl st blo, hdc blo in all hdc blo). Turn.

Repeat rows 3 and 4 until hat body is approx 1 to 2’’ less than the measure you took in the notes.

Finish off & weave ends in.

Section 2 : Assembly

Fold rectangle in 2, width-wise. Pin in these spots, through both thicknesses : bottom of border, top of border, center of hat body, top of hat.

With wrong side facing and yarn used to croche the hat, sew through corresponding stitches of both thicknesses.

Repeat with right side facing, making sure to respect established waves so as not to have an apparent seam.

Finish off & weave ends in.

Take another length of yarn & weave it in and out of top of hat, all the way around. Pull tightly together and secure.

Attach pompom to top of hat.
